Alexander Isak Seeks Move from Newcastle United to Liverpool
Alexander Isak is eager to leave Newcastle United and join Liverpool this summer.
According to multiple sources reported by BBC Sport, the Swedish striker aims to make the switch to the Premier League champions before the transfer deadline on September 1.
The Magpies rejected a £110 million bid from Liverpool for Isak on August 1, with the Reds subsequently indicating they were ready to withdraw from negotiations.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, following a pre-season friendly loss to Atletico Madrid, stated that "everything is in play" regarding Isak's future but emphasized that it is "clear" he "cannot involve" the striker in his current plans.
Consequently, Isak is anticipated to miss Newcastle's Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday at 12:30 PM BST.
The former Borussia Dortmund forward missed Newcastle's pre-season tour in the Far East due to a "minor" thigh injury.
He has since trained alone at his former club Real Sociedad before returning to the UK last week.
Isak, who netted 27 goals in 42 appearances across all competitions last season, has three years remaining on his contract with Newcastle.
Newcastle has struggled to secure new strikers this summer, with Liam Delap opting for Chelsea, Benjamin Sesko choosing Manchester United, and Hugo Ekitike moving to Liverpool.
Interest in Brentford striker Yoane Wissa persists, as he departed the Bees' pre-season camp in Portugal in July due to his desire to join Newcastle.
The 28-year-old returned to first-team training last week after productive discussions with head coach Keith Andrews.
However, the DR Congo striker remains hopeful of a move to Newcastle if a fee can be agreed upon.
Meanwhile, Howe's side is nearing the signing of AC Milan defender Malick Thiaw, who is expected to fly to Tyneside on Sunday night to finalize his £34.62 million transfer to St James' Park.
