Arsenal's Marli Salmon Makes Premier League Bench Debut
Arsenal's young talent Marli Salmon made his Premier League bench debut during Saturday's match against Aston Villa.
At just 16 years old, Salmon is part of a promising group of youngsters emerging from the Arsenal academy, alongside peers like Max Dowman, who has already played for the first team.
Salmon was one of two 15-year-olds who participated in Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia, where he played against AC Milan and Newcastle United in Singapore.
Now a regular in first-team training, he has also captained the Arsenal Under-19 team in the UEFA Youth League.
Initially scouted as a forward, Salmon transitioned to centre-back during his first trial at the club and has remained in that position ever since.
With key players William Saliba, Gabriel, and Cristhian Mosquera sidelined due to injuries for the Villa match, Salmon was called up for defensive support.
He began training with the first team during the pre-season camp in Spain, just prior to the tour of Hong Kong and Singapore.
Supporters have drawn comparisons between Salmon and Saliba, noting his composure and game-reading abilities that mirror those of the French centre-back.
Highly regarded by coaches for some time, Salmon's inclusion on the bench at Villa Park marks a significant milestone in his development.
He could soon join the ranks of fellow teenage sensations like Liverpool's Rio Ngumoha and Chelsea's Estevao Willian in making appearances in the top flight this season.
