Bayern Munich's recent victory over Köln has allowed the Bavarian club to match the record points total at the halfway mark of a Bundesliga season, while also achieving an unprecedented goal tally after 17 matches.

While it is common for Bayern Munich to lead the Bundesliga table at the season's midpoint, the scenario is quite remarkable this year. Their 3-1 victory against Köln at the RheinEnergieStadion extended their unbeaten league record to 15 wins and two draws from 17 matches, equaling the Bundesliga points record of 47 set by Pep Guardiola during his inaugural season in 2013-14.
However, under the management of Vincent Kompany, Bayern has achieved this milestone with remarkable flair, scoring a record 66 goals at the halfway point—22 more than Guardiola's squad managed a decade ago.
In the 2013-14 season, Guardiola's Bayern went on to clinch the Bundesliga title with 90 points, finishing 19 points ahead of Borussia Dortmund in second place, with the championship decided seven games before the season's conclusion. This season, Kompany's Bayern already holds an 11-point advantage over second-placed Dortmund and is aiming for the Bundesliga record of 91 points, set by Bayern's Treble-winning team in 2012-13, which had five points fewer at this stage.
The scale of Bayern's scoring prowess is unprecedented at this point in any major European league since the 1930s. Athletic Bilbao was the last club to surpass Bayern's 66 goals after 17 matches, netting 72 in the 1930-31 season, which played a crucial role in their La Liga title win on goal difference amidst a three-way tie in an 18-game season. Notably, Blackburn Rovers hold the all-time record for goals after 17 matches, scoring 73 goals in the 1889-90 Division One season.
More recently, Manchester City, under Roberto Mancini, set the Premier League record with 53 goals in 17 games during the 2011-12 season, a team captained by Kompany.
Harry Kane has emerged as the standout star for Bayern, showcasing exceptional form since his transfer from north London to Germany. The England captain has already netted 31 goals in just 27 appearances, including 20 in 17 league matches, with only eight games where he failed to score. In his first season with Bayern in 2023-24, Kane averaged a goal every 79 minutes, followed by an average of 92 minutes in his second season.
