Tottenham defender Ben Davies is set to undergo surgery for a broken ankle, a situation that may jeopardize his participation in Wales' World Cup play-off.
The 32-year-old player received oxygen before being carried off on a stretcher during the 19th minute of Saturday's 2-1 Premier League defeat against West Ham.
According to a statement from Tottenham Hotspur, "We can confirm that Ben Davies will undergo surgery today for a fracture of his left ankle." However, the club did not provide a timeline for his recovery.
Wales is scheduled to face Bosnia-Herzegovina in the World Cup play-off semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium on March 26, with the winner advancing to play against Northern Ireland or Italy in the final on March 31.
Davies' injury adds to Tottenham's growing list of sidelined players, as manager Thomas Frank faces increasing scrutiny with the team having secured only seven wins from 22 league matches this season, placing Spurs 14th in the table.
During the latter stages of the match against West Ham, Spurs fans chanted, "You're getting sacked in the morning" directed at Frank, who was appointed in June. Although discussions regarding Frank's future have taken place, he remains in charge ahead of the Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday.
