Birmingham City Secures Victory Over Sheffield United in Carabao Cup
Substitute Jay Stansfield netted a late winner, securing a well-deserved victory for Birmingham City against Sheffield United in the Carabao Cup.
The home team took an early lead within the first five minutes when debutant Dovydas Sasnauskas miscalculated a back-pass, leaving goalkeeper Adam Davies vulnerable. Demarai Gray capitalized on the mistake, setting up Kyogo Furuhashi for the opening goal.
Despite having opportunities to extend their lead, Furuhashi squandered two clear chances. The visitors struck back dramatically when Gus Hamer unleashed a stunning shot from just beyond the halfway line, leveling the score.
However, Birmingham City was determined not to be denied. Stansfield skillfully maneuvered near the edge of the penalty area, and his low shot took a deflection, finding the back of the net past Davies.
With this victory, Birmingham City will advance to face League One side Port Vale in the second round.
