Borussia Dortmund's Champions League Hopes Diminish After Draw with Bodo/Glimt
Borussia Dortmund's aspirations to qualify for the Champions League knockout stage automatically took a hit as they settled for a draw against Bodo/Glimt, who managed to equalize twice during the match.
The outcome leaves Dortmund with 11 points, placing them two spots and one point shy of the top eight. Meanwhile, Bodo/Glimt remains in 32nd position, having yet to secure a victory in their first six matches.
When Julian Brandt netted the opening goal for the home team, assisted by Fabio Silva, it appeared that Niko Kovac's squad was on track for a comfortable win, especially following their recent thrashing of Villarreal at home.
However, veteran defender Haitam Aleesami equalized for Bodo/Glimt with a well-placed header from a meticulously executed corner kick.
In the second half, former AC Milan striker Jens Petter Hauge brought the visitors level again with a close-range finish, responding after Brandt had restored Dortmund's lead.
Despite dominating the match with 22 attempts on goal compared to Bodo/Glimt's seven, Dortmund could not secure the win. Kjetil Knutsen's team earned praise from their traveling supporters at the final whistle for their resilient performance.
Before the match, Dortmund legends Dede and Marco Reus were honored on the pitch, with Reus being announced as a club ambassador. The former Germany winger, who now plays for LA Galaxy in MLS, made over 400 appearances for Dortmund and captained the team for five seasons.
Dortmund's next European fixture is against Tottenham on Tuesday, January 20, while Bodo/Glimt will host Manchester City on the same evening.
