Brentford's Igor Thiago Shines in Victory Over Burnley
Brentford striker Igor Thiago increased his season tally to 11 goals in 13 matches with a late brace, leading the Bees to a 3-1 victory over struggling Burnley, who suffered their fourth consecutive defeat.
The match remained scoreless until the 81st minute, when Thiago converted a penalty to open the scoring. Burnley quickly responded with a penalty of their own, taken by Zian Flemming just four minutes later.
Brentford regained the lead almost immediately, with Thiago striking from close range after a ball into the box from Jordan Henderson caused chaos in the Burnley defense. Dango Ouattara then secured the win with a goal in injury time.
Brentford started strong, with Thiago missing a close-range chance following a cutback from Mikkel Damsgaard. It wasn't until the dying moments of the first half that Burnley registered their first shot on target, with Dutch forward Flemming forcing a spectacular save from goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher.
Thiago had a goal disallowed for offside, and Michael Kayode narrowly missed with a header early in the second half, leading to growing frustration for Keith Andrews' Brentford side.
The breakthrough came when Axel Tuanzebe fouled Ouattara in the penalty area, allowing Thiago, who had missed a penalty against Brighton the previous weekend, to finally put Brentford ahead.
However, Burnley equalized shortly after when Kayode was penalized again, enabling Flemming to score his fourth goal in five matches. Yet, Thiago restored Brentford's lead with a strike in the 86th minute, and Ouattara's late goal ensured a comfortable victory.
With this win, Brentford rises to eighth place in the standings with 19 points from 13 matches, while Burnley remains second from the bottom with just 10 points.
