Bristol City Stages Dramatic Comeback to Draw with Leicester City
Emil Riis salvaged a point for Bristol City as the Robins mounted a remarkable comeback from a 2-0 deficit to draw 2-2 with Leicester City at Ashton Gate.
Leicester took an early lead when Jordan Ayew converted a penalty after Stephy Mavididi was fouled by Scott Twine. Bobby De Cordova-Reid then scored against his former club, seemingly putting the Foxes in control with a 2-0 advantage by halftime.
However, the tide turned immediately after the break when Mark Sykes found the net, beating Leicester goalkeeper Jakub Stolarczyk at his near post, igniting a revival for the Robins after a disappointing first half that ended with boos from the home crowd.
Frustration mounted when Sinclair Armstrong redirected a header from teammate Rob Dickie onto the crossbar, but jubilation followed in the 83rd minute when Ross McCrorie assisted Riis, who scored with a deft header to level the match.
While a victory would have lifted Leicester above Bristol City in the standings, the draw means the Robins remain two points and three spots ahead of the Foxes, who currently sit in 13th place after 20 Championship matches.
Both teams faced early pressure, with a poor clearance from Leicester allowing Riis a close-range shot that forced Stolarczyk into a sprawling save. At the other end, Radek Vitek struggled to gather a deep cross from Mavididi, leading to the forward's header hitting the top of the bar.
The breakthrough came in the 16th minute when Mavididi was tripped in the penalty area, allowing Ayew to score from the spot. Cameron Pring, making his first start of the season after an ankle injury, came closest to responding for Bristol City, sending a header just over the bar.
De Cordova-Reid then extended Leicester's lead to 2-0, finishing a cut-back pass from Abdul Fatawu without celebrating against his former club.
Sykes halved the deficit shortly after the second half began, slotting home after his initial attempt was blocked by Jannik Vestergaard. Stolarczyk was called into action again as Bristol City pressed for an equalizer, but it was a near miss from Dickie's header that nearly resulted in a goal, only for Armstrong to deflect the ball onto the bar.
Ultimately, Riis ensured Bristol City secured a point with his equalizing header, while Stolarczyk made a crucial save in stoppage time from Adam Randell to deny the Robins a dramatic win.

Bristol City head coach Gerhard Struber commented:
"I have mixed feelings today. I would say that we saw two different versions of Bristol City in this match. The first half was a bit sloppy, and we needed to change our approach at halftime with a clear message about what we had to do differently in the second half. It was clear to me that if we got that first goal, Leicester might have some doubts. The most important thing is that we displayed much more of our typical style of football, making it difficult for them. The second half was a completely different performance from the team, showcasing the players' character and mentality to bounce back."
Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes stated:
"We approach every game with the intention of getting three points, so it’s always disappointing not to achieve that, especially after a strong first half. We executed our game plan well, understanding that Bristol City likes to press high and exploit spaces. However, after going up 2-0, we discussed the need to score a third goal and not drop our intensity. Conceding so quickly after halftime was disappointing, and we needed to manage the second half better while still in the lead. It’s frustrating to only come away with one point."
