Burnley Signs Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea for Over £20 Million
Burnley has finalized the acquisition of French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea for a fee exceeding £20 million.
The 21-year-old has committed to a five-year contract at Turf Moor.
According to BBC Sport, the transfer fee aligns closely with the £23.2 million Chelsea paid to acquire Ugochukwu from Rennes in 2023.
"It’s a great feeling to sign for Burnley," Ugochukwu expressed. "As soon as I learned of the club's interest, I was eager to learn more about the project. I spoke with the manager and Maxime Esteve—they both exhibited immense passion for the club and its future direction.
"This feels like the ideal move for me at this point in my career, given the ambition the club is demonstrating."
Ugochukwu was deemed surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea aims to offload several players from their so-called 'bomb squad,' which includes England internationals Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell, who have been training separately from Enzo Maresca's first team.
During his two-year tenure at Chelsea, Ugochukwu made 15 appearances across all competitions in his first season before being loaned to Southampton for the 2024-25 season.
Burnley is also reportedly in negotiations to sign Chelsea’s 23-year-old forward Armando Broja, with sources indicating that the transfer could be valued at up to £20 million, though the exact figure has yet to be confirmed.
