Captain Marc Guehi Declines New Contract with Crystal Palace
Captain Marc Guehi has informed Crystal Palace that he will not be signing a new contract and plans to leave the club next year, according to manager Oliver Glasner.
Glasner revealed that the 25-year-old England defender, whose current contract expires at the end of the season, has declined the club's offer to extend his stay.
"They offered Marc a new contract, but he said, 'No, I want to make something different,' and that’s normal," Glasner stated.
Crystal Palace may consider selling Guehi during the January transfer window, or he could depart on a free transfer next summer.
Glasner commented, "It's about how we can handle this situation. What is the best way to take the next step? And that’s all about our discussions together."
Since joining from Chelsea in 2021, Guehi has made 167 appearances for Palace. He was close to a move to Liverpool this summer, having passed a medical and anticipated completing a £35 million transfer. However, Palace withdrew from the deal on transfer deadline day after failing to secure Brighton defender Igor Julio as a replacement.
Guehi has participated in all 12 matches for Palace this season, contributing to the team's position in sixth place in the Premier League.
Reports indicate that Crystal Palace would prefer to sell him in January, with Liverpool potentially facing competition from Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich.
Guehi earned his 26th cap for England in this month's 3-0 friendly victory over Wales and expressed that there is "definitely an opportunity" to be included in the squad for the 2026 World Cup, even if he remains at Palace for the remainder of the season.
