Celtic Manager Brendan Rodgers Addresses Transfer Situation Ahead of Deadline
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has stated that there are no updates regarding player transfers, following his recent expressions of frustration about the summer transfer window.
Rodgers reassured fans that the club's leadership has historically delivered results, as he awaits new signings ahead of the transfer deadline.
As he embarks on the final season of his three-year contract, Rodgers indicated that he would require the board to align with his ambitions for an extended tenure.
Since then, the loan deal for centre-back Jahmai Simpson-Pusey from Manchester City has been finalized; however, when questioned about further additions before Celtic's match against Aberdeen on Sunday, Rodgers remarked, "I’ve got nothing new for you."
He added, "It’s very clear what we need to improve, and there’s a lot of work happening, both on our end and likely at every other club. That’s the reality of this time of year. We’re hoping to conclude some deals to enhance the squad."
The new striker, Shin Yamada, has yet to make his debut, and the absence of Kyogo Furuhashi, who was sold to Rennes in January and is now with Birmingham City, continues to be felt. Additionally, Celtic has suffered a long-term knee injury to Jota and has sold winger Nicolas Kuhn to Como.
When asked if he understood the supporters' frustrations, Rodgers responded, "I think the board has demonstrated over many years that the necessary work will be accomplished. As a group that has successfully managed the club for so long, they must ensure they attain the best value for the players."
He continued, "Of course, as coaches, managers, and supporters, we all want the best players. However, the club will be operated in a manner that guarantees both the acquisition of top players and optimal value. That responsibility lies above me, and it is clearly understood."
Rodgers concluded with uncertainty regarding potential new signings in the 10 days leading up to Celtic's Champions League play-off first leg against either Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava, who will face off again next week, with Kairat Almaty currently leading 1-0.
