Chelsea Charged by FA with 74 Alleged Rule Breaches
Chelsea Football Club has been charged by the Football Association (FA) with 74 alleged breaches of regulations concerning payments to agents from 2009 to 2022.
The charges primarily focus on incidents that occurred during the 2010-11 to 2015-16 seasons.
These alleged breaches pertain to dealings with agents, intermediaries, and third-party investments in players.
Chelsea has until September 19 to respond to the charges.
Roman Abramovich, the Russian oligarch, owned the club from 2003 until 2022, when he sold it to a consortium led by American investor Todd Boehly and private equity firm Clearlake Capital.
In a statement, Chelsea revealed, "During a thorough due diligence process prior to the completion of the purchase, the ownership group became aware of potentially incomplete financial reporting regarding historical transactions and other possible breaches of FA rules."
"Immediately upon completion of the purchase, the club self-reported these matters to all relevant regulators, including the FA. The club has demonstrated unprecedented transparency during this process, granting comprehensive access to its files and historical data."
