Chelsea Secures 2-0 Victory Over Everton with Palmer's Goal
Cole Palmer scored his first goal since September, leading Chelsea to a 2-0 victory over in-form Everton at Stamford Bridge and ending a four-game winless streak.
The 23-year-old forward, who has been managing a groin injury that sidelined him for over two months, opened the scoring in the 21st minute, catching the attention of England manager Thomas Tuchel.
Right-back Malo Gusto, who assisted Palmer's goal, added a second just before half-time.
Everton had the upper hand in the opening 20 minutes, with Iliman Ndiaye attempting two shots on goal and James Garner coming close to scoring.
However, Palmer, aptly nicknamed 'Cold,' eased Chelsea's nerves after a challenging start to December, which included defeats to Leeds and Atalanta, as well as a draw against Bournemouth.
After receiving a pass from Gusto that split Everton's defense, Palmer took a touch and sent goalkeeper Jordan Pickford the wrong way, finishing into the near post.
Following the goal, Chelsea gained momentum. Alejandro Garnacho missed several opportunities, including a shot wide of an open goal after capitalizing on a poor back pass from substitute Carlos Alcaraz, moments after Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall left the pitch due to injury.
Both Chelsea's Enzo Fernandez and Everton's Jack Grealish had chances before Chelsea doubled their lead just before the break, with Gusto reacting quickly to convert Pedro Neto's cross.
In the second half, Garnacho lifted a close-range shot over the bar before being substituted for Jamie Gittens. Grealish had a header saved and volleyed wide, missing a chance that should have brought Everton back into the game. Ndiaye also struck the post late on, while Trevoh Chalobah blocked another attempt from Alcaraz inside the box.
Chelsea's superior finishing proved decisive, allowing them to consolidate their position in fourth place in the Premier League, while Everton remains in eighth, having played one game more than most of their competitors.
