Crystal Palace Adopts Triangular Corner Flags in Honor of FA Cup Victory
Crystal Palace has introduced triangular corner flags at Selhurst Park this season as a tribute to their FA Cup victory.
This tradition allows the defending champions to utilize triangle-shaped corner flags instead of the standard square ones.
The practice is believed to have originated after Cardiff City secured their first and only FA Cup title in 1927, inspiring other clubs to adopt the same custom.
Although recent champions such as Manchester United, Manchester City, and Liverpool have not embraced this trend, Leicester City did use triangular flags during the 2021-22 season.
The International Football Association Board (IFAB), which governs the laws of the game, does not specify the shape of corner flags.
In announcing their decision to use triangular corner flags, Palace stated: "After that unforgettable day at Wembley on 17 May 2025, we finally joined the winners' circle. The triangle flags are a simple but powerful reminder of that historic moment. From the stands, it might just look like a flag – but for us, it is a symbol of making history."
