Derby County Triumphs Over Swansea City in Matos' Debut

Swansea ignited hopes of salvaging a point when Ethan Galbraith netted in the final minute of regular time, but it proved too late as Derby held on to secure all three points.
John Eustace's side climbed to seventh in the standings, just outside the top six on goal difference, thanks to a remarkable turnaround in form after a poor start to the season.
In contrast, Swansea's outlook appears bleak, with new head coach Matos struggling to make an immediate impact after being appointed as Alan Sheehan's successor just before the match.
Swansea now sits 20th in the table, having suffered four consecutive defeats and winning only two of their last 13 league matches.
Ward opened the scoring for Derby in a balanced first half, heading in Callum Elder's well-placed cross from the back post.
Derby was effective rather than dominant, with their second goal coming after Swansea squandered several opportunities to clear the ball. Ben Cabango attempted to intercept Ward's cross but inadvertently set up Salvesen, who struck a precise shot into the net from 15 yards.
Swansea had opportunities to score, with Eom Jisung cutting in from the left and forcing a diving save from Jacob Widell Zetterstrom, while Cabango's header from close range was directed straight at the Derby goalkeeper.
Galbraith's elegant finish provided no relief for Swansea, who were booed off the pitch, echoing the sentiments from Sheehan's final game earlier this month.

Matos had only one training session with the full Swansea squad prior to the match, making it perhaps unrealistic to expect immediate changes following their recent struggles.
While there were occasional glimpses of promise from the home side, a victory never seemed likely after Ward's early goal delivered a significant blow.
Matos and his newly assembled management team, which includes club legends Leon Britton and Joe Allen, face a daunting task in reversing Swansea's concerning decline in form.
Derby's resurgence could serve as a source of inspiration for Swansea, considering Eustace's team was just above the relegation zone following a defeat at Oxford in mid-October.
This latest victory came despite the absence of injured Carlton Morris, the league's joint-leading goalscorer, as Derby demonstrated the ruthless edge that Swansea has been lacking this season.

"The result was not good, that’s clear. There were good moments in the game that we can build on, and I think that’s the most important thing; we now have a starting point. We need to improve many aspects, especially in how we finish our attacks. We have possession but fail to create chances, which is something we must address. Our counter-pressing must also be more aggressive. There are immediate improvements needed, but we have to find more consistency and keep pushing forward—that's the plan."
Derby head coach John Eustace:
"It was a great three points. We knew it would be a difficult night with a new manager coming in. Losing Carlton took some time to adjust, but we scored a fantastic goal in a crucial area. In the second half, I felt we were in control and managed to score another great goal on the transition."
On Carlton Morris' injury:
"Carlton has had one scan, with a couple more to come. It's not as bad as we initially feared; hopefully, it's not a season-ending injury, and he should be back in a couple of months."
