Dorking Wanderers to Feature 54-Year-Old Fan as Goalkeeper
Dorking Wanderers have announced that 54-year-old fan Terry Dunn will make his debut as goalkeeper in their National League South match against AFC Totton this Saturday.
Dunn, who previously played for various local teams, retired from competitive football in 1997. However, he has signed a short-term contract after first-team goalkeeper Harrison Foulkes was sidelined for up to four weeks due to a spleen injury.
While the club anticipates bringing in a new loan goalkeeper on Monday, they were unable to secure a more suitable replacement for Foulkes in time for this weekend's match.
Dorking described Dunn as a "staunch supporter" and a "multiple promotion winner" at the local level in a statement on their official website.
"Playing in goal is like riding a bike – you never forget it," Dunn remarked. "I still regularly participate in walking football. As a Wanderers fan, no one will be trying harder than me to keep a clean sheet on Saturday."
Marc White, the long-serving chairman and first-team manager of the club, known for his outspoken nature in non-league football, commented: "What Terry lacks in mobility, he'll make up for in heart – and for one game, we’re just going to have to get on with it."
