Eddie Howe Dismisses Manchester United Speculation, Expresses Happiness at Newcastle
Head coach Eddie Howe has expressed his contentment at Newcastle United, dismissing any speculation linking him to the managerial position at Manchester United.
Since his appointment in November 2021, Howe has been one of the longest-serving managers in the Premier League, surpassed only by Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta, and Fulham’s Marco Silva.
When asked if any circumstances could lure him away from St James' Park following the recent sacking of Ruben Amorim at Manchester United, Howe replied, "No. Not at this current time." He emphasized that his happiness in the role and the relationships he has cultivated are paramount.
"The most important thing for me is happiness in the role, happiness in the job, and the relationships that I have with the people around me," he stated. "That has not always been consistently good. Things can change at any football club, but I’m very happy at the moment."
Despite previous tensions with former sporting director Paul Mitchell, who departed last summer after less than a year, Howe has developed a strong rapport with Ross Wilson, Mitchell's successor. Wilson is the third sporting director Howe has collaborated with since taking charge, while David Hopkinson is the second chief executive following Darren Eales' resignation due to health issues.
Howe expressed his satisfaction at Newcastle as long as he can "express myself in the best way possible and be the best version of myself." Currently, Newcastle sits ninth in the Premier League, just two points shy of fifth place, has reached the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup, and is on track for a last-16 play-off spot in the Champions League.
Howe continues to receive strong support from the club's majority owners, the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, along with minority shareholder Jamie Reuben. "For any club to be successful, there has to be unity from top to bottom," Howe remarked. "There has to be a good feeling between everyone. I've had an unbelievable relationship with the board. That’s never changed. I consider myself very lucky to have that because there are very few managers that have the time to build those relationships. To have the confidence and trust within each other is really important. Hopefully, that stays for a long time."
