FA Cup Fourth Qualifying Round Highlights
Hemel Hempstead Town has secured a place in the main draw of the FA Cup for only the third time in 105 years after defeating Yeovil Town 2-1.
Despite losing Isiah Noel-Williams to a straight red card for an off-the-ball incident just 25 minutes into the match, the Tudors took the lead with a low finish from skipper Kyle Ajayi six minutes before halftime.
Yeovil, currently ranked 11th in the National League, appeared poised to force a replay when Harvey Greenslade equalized with 20 minutes remaining. However, Finley Wilkinson delivered a dramatic 87th-minute header, clinching the victory for the National League South side and advancing them to the first round proper for the first time in 11 years.
Other notable upsets occurred in Kent, where National League Solihull Moors fell 2-0 to National League South side Ebbsfleet, while Tonbridge Angels, managed by former Millwall player Alan Dunne, suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Isthmian League Premier Division team Chatham Town, who reached the first round for the first time in 97 years.
The Only Way is Essex
Eighth-tier Maldon & Tiptree, competing in the Isthmian League Division One North, remains the lowest-ranked team in the competition as the first round draw approaches on Monday. The Jammers achieved their sixth FA Cup victory this season, equaling the total wins a Premier League team would require to secure the trophy, having started their campaign in the extra preliminary round on August 1 with a 1-0 win over Flackwell Heath.
In a thrilling match where they played the entire second half with ten men, former West Ham forward Freddie Sears scored the only goal. Additionally, former Dagenham keeper Elliot Justham saved a penalty, and ex-Charlton, QPR, and Ipswich forward Macauley Bonne made his debut.
Meanwhile, the only ninth-tier team left in the competition, Whitstable Town, was eliminated following a 5-1 defeat against National League Wealdstone, and eighth-tier Runcorn Linnets lost 1-0 to National League North side Buxton, who reached the first round for the third time in five seasons.
On the other end of the non-league spectrum, 1955 semi-finalists York City triumphed 2-1 over Rochdale, the highest-ranked team in the competition, currently leading the National League with ten wins from their first twelve matches.
Hartlepool United required a late goal to secure a replay against Northern Premier League side Gainsborough Trinity, while fellow National League team Tamworth edged past Hyde United with a solitary goal, hoping for another deep run in the tournament after their close encounter with Tottenham in the third round last season.
National League North's Macclesfield FC made history by reaching the first round for the first time in their brief existence with a victory over Spalding.
Late Heartbreak for Farnham
In the opening match of the round broadcast live on BBC Sport, seventh-tier Farnham Town was denied a memorable victory at home against National League Sutton United by a heartbreaking equalizer scored in the 98th minute.
Farnham, having risen to the Southern Premier South after back-to-back promotions, faced Sutton, who had recently dropped from League Two into the National League in 2024. Darryl Sanders scored twice to give the hosts the lead at the start of each half, but Harry Phipps and Brandon Njoku responded for Sutton.
Despite Sutton's illustrious history, including a significant upset over top-tier Coventry City in 1989, they appeared to be on the brink of defeat when Owen Dean found the net in the 61st minute. However, in a dramatic finish, Jayden Harris salvaged a draw two minutes beyond the allotted six minutes of stoppage time.
