FA Investigates Allegations Against Burnley Midfielder
The Football Association (FA) is investigating allegations that Burnley midfielder Hannibal Mejbri spat at Leeds United fans during the Clarets' victory at Turf Moor on Saturday.
Lancashire Police are also working to ascertain the details surrounding the alleged incident following a complaint made by a Leeds supporter situated in the away section of the stadium.
Mejbri, 22, entered the match as a substitute in the 83rd minute and received a yellow card during injury time for confronting Gabriel Gudmundsson after a robust tackle on the Leeds defender near the dugouts.
While the FA is currently reviewing the spitting allegation, a full investigation has not yet been initiated.
Lancashire Police confirmed they are aware of the alleged incident involving a Burnley player during the second half of the Premier League clash between Burnley and Leeds United at Turf Moor. They stated, "We are currently collaborating with Burnley Football Club to establish the facts."
Leeds United has acknowledged the allegation but has chosen not to comment further at this time. Burnley, who secured a 2-0 victory in the match, has also declined to provide any comment.
