Graham Potter Interested in Coaching Swedish National Team
Former Chelsea and West Ham manager Graham Potter has expressed his interest in becoming the next head coach of Sweden's national football team.
This interest follows the recent dismissal of Jon Dahl Tomasson, who was let go after Sweden's disappointing start to the 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign, leaving the team at the bottom of Group B with only one point from four matches.
Potter, who was removed from his position at West Ham last month after just eight months, has a history with Swedish football, having managed Östersunds FK from 2011 to 2018.
Currently residing in Sweden, Potter shared his thoughts with the Swedish media outlet Fotbollskanalen, stating, "I’m actually in Sweden right now, in my house in Sweden. I’m between jobs and just left the Premier League. I’m open to anything, really, where I feel I can help. The job as head coach of the Swedish national team is fantastic."
He added, "I have feelings for Sweden. I love the country and I love Swedish football. I have a lot to be grateful for towards Swedish football. So yes, it would be a fantastic opportunity for me, obviously."
The 50-year-old Englishman previously led Östersunds from the fourth tier of Swedish football to the top division and played a pivotal role in their victory in the Swedish Cup in 2017. Following his time in Sweden, he managed Swansea City and Brighton, eventually taking the helm at Chelsea in 2022, where he was dismissed after seven months.
Tomasson's tenure ended following a 1-0 defeat to Kosovo on Monday. Under his leadership, Sweden faced challenges in the qualifiers, managing only a draw against Slovenia and losses to Kosovo and Switzerland in their first three group matches, despite having a talented forward line featuring Liverpool's Alexander Isak and Arsenal's Viktor Gyökeres.
