Hearts Seek to Regain Form Amidst Recent Struggles
Derek McInnes acknowledges that table-topping Hearts are striving to regain their early-season "swagger" following a series of disappointing results.
Hearts have secured only three points from the last 15 available, with Saturday's draw against Motherwell marking their third stalemate in five matches.
In light of Aberdeen's impressive start and subsequent decline last season, there is growing speculation regarding how long Hearts can maintain their position at the top of the Premiership.
Hearts began the season with a remarkable run, achieving seven wins and a draw in their first eight games, including victories against Rangers at Ibrox, a derby win over Hibs, and a significant triumph against Celtic.
That victory over the reigning champions propelled Hearts eight points clear, but their form has since faltered. The question now is whether this is merely a temporary setback or a sign that their title challenge is unraveling.
"We've obviously raised expectations, and everybody, including myself, expected us to win against Motherwell," McInnes told BBC Scotland. "However, we haven't quite found our rhythm or potency in attack. We need to rediscover that spark."
"It's one defeat in 14 matches, which is commendable for our club. Yet, with the heightened expectations, we remained grounded during our earlier successes. I'm pleased that we are five points clear and accumulating a good tally of points at the moment."

Baningime's Absence Felt
Hearts struggled for large portions of the match against Motherwell. Despite the return of striker Lawrence Shankland, who missed the previous week’s defeat to Aberdeen due to injury, the team lacked attacking threat, registering an expected goals (xG) of just 0.33 in their second consecutive game without scoring.
With only nine attempts on goal—the fewest in a Premiership match this season—Hearts managed just one shot on target. While securing a point against an in-form Motherwell can be seen as a testament to Hearts' resilience, the team’s early-season vigor appears to be waning. The absence of injured midfielder Beni Baningime may have disrupted the team's balance, as Hearts have not won any of the three matches he has missed.
"We're struggling to maintain control in midfield, possibly due to Baningime's absence," McInnes commented. "We need to address this issue, especially with him and Ageu out. We've tried various options to improve our performance. For us to regain our swagger and confidence, we must establish better control in games."
