Igor Paixao Shines as Marseille Defeats Ajax in Champions League
Igor Paixao scored his first goals for Marseille in their Champions League victory over Ajax.
Paixao opened the scoring by connecting with a pass from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, slotting the ball into the bottom corner.
The Brazilian forward added a second goal from 20 yards out after Ajax captain Davy Klaassen lost possession carelessly.
Aubameyang assisted again, setting up Mason Greenwood for a close-range finish that extended Marseille's lead to 3-0 within the first 26 minutes.
Ajax conceded a fourth goal when Oscar Gloukh's free-kick led to a counter-attack finished by Aubameyang.
Paixao is the first Marseille player to score twice in a Champions League match since Dimitri Payet achieved the feat against Olympiacos in December 2020.
Ajax managed only two shots on target and were thoroughly outplayed by Roberto de Zerbi's side, marking their second consecutive defeat in the Champions League.
