Jack Wilshere Emerges as Top Candidate for Luton Town Manager Position
Former Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere is the leading candidate for the manager position at Luton Town, following the dismissal of Matt Bloomfield earlier this week.
The 33-year-old has engaged in discussions with the Hatters and is currently in a strong position to take over the role. Although Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens also made it to the final two candidates, Wilshere appears to be the frontrunner, though a deal has yet to be finalized.
Wilshere's most recent coaching experience was as interim coach at Norwich City at the end of last season, where he led the team for the final two matches after the departure of Johannes Hoff Thorup.
Despite his efforts, he was not selected for the permanent position, which went to Liam Manning. He was also considered for the managerial role at Plymouth Argyle before Tom Cleverley was appointed.
Luton Town has had a challenging start to the 2025-26 season, suffering back-to-back relegations and recording five defeats in their first 11 games, leaving them in 11th place in League One.
Prior to his time at Norwich, Wilshere served as the under-18 coach at Arsenal and was a candidate for the Under-21 role during the summer before deciding to withdraw. A former England international, he earned 34 caps and made 197 appearances for Arsenal, in addition to playing for West Ham and Bournemouth.
