James Maddison Faces Long Injury Layoff
Tottenham midfielder James Maddison has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury, which is expected to keep him sidelined for the majority of the upcoming season.
According to sources speaking to BBC Sport, Maddison is scheduled to undergo surgery and will be a long-term absentee as he embarks on his recovery program.
The 28-year-old athlete sustained the injury during a pre-season draw against Newcastle in South Korea last weekend.
Manager Thomas Frank confirmed after the match that Maddison had injured the same knee that had previously kept him out of the Europa League final victory against Manchester United in May.
Since returning from Asia on Monday, Maddison has undergone tests in recent days to determine the extent of the injury.
Initial concerns regarding a cruciate ligament injury have now been confirmed.
