Japan Secures Historic Victory Over Brazil in Friendly Match
Japan achieved a historic milestone by securing their first-ever victory over Brazil in an international friendly held in Tokyo.
Brazil, managed by Carlo Ancelotti, took an early lead in the match when Paulo Henrique scored with a powerful strike in the 26th minute, assisted by Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
Just six minutes later, Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli doubled Brazil's advantage, finishing low after receiving a pass from Lucas Paqueta of West Ham.
However, Japan mounted a remarkable comeback in the second half.
They equalized shortly after the hour mark with goals from former Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino and Keito Nakamura, followed by Ayase Ueda's decisive header in the 71st minute that secured victory for the home side.
Since taking over as Brazil's manager in May, Ancelotti has led the team to four points from their first two qualifiers, ensuring their qualification for the 2026 World Cup, which will be hosted in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Brazil had recently triumphed over South Korea with a 5-0 win in another friendly but could not maintain their lead against Japan.
Ancelotti's squad featured several Premier League players, including Guimaraes, Martinelli, Paqueta, and Manchester United's Casemiro, who all started the match.
In the second half, Chelsea winger Estevao, Manchester United forward Matheus Cunha, Newcastle midfielder Joelinton, and Tottenham striker Richarlison were among the substitutes introduced by Brazil.
Japan has also secured their spot in the 2026 World Cup, with Crystal Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada starting the match, while Leeds United's Ao Tanaka came on as a substitute in the second half.
