Johnny Kenny Joins Republic of Ireland Squad for World Cup Qualifiers
Celtic striker Johnny Kenny has been called up to replace the injured Troy Parrott in the Republic of Ireland squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Armenia.
Parrott, a forward for AZ Alkmaar, has had an impressive start to the season, scoring 10 goals in just seven matches. However, he sustained an unspecified injury during training last week, which has sidelined him for this international window.
Kenny, 22, is receiving his first senior squad call-up after previously representing the under-21 team. He was not included in Celtic's squad for their recent 0-0 draw against Rangers but signed a new contract with the club last month following two successful loan spells with Shamrock Rovers.
All other players initially named in the squad have reported for training as coach Heimir Hallgrimsson's team prepares to face Hungary at the Aviva Stadium on Saturday, September 6. Following this match, they will travel to Armenia for their first away game of the campaign on Tuesday, September 9.
