Kilmarnock and Dundee Share Points in Goalless Stalemate
Kilmarnock maintained their unbeaten streak under new manager Stuart Kettlewell after playing to a goalless draw against a determined Dundee in the Scottish Premiership.
Although Kettlewell's appointment at Rugby Park initially faced skepticism, his team's solid early-season performance has begun to win over fans, especially with a League Cup quarter-final approaching.
Kilmarnock had opportunities to secure a victory, with captain Brad Lyons missing two good chances in the second half. His first attempt was thwarted by a teammate who inadvertently took the ball away, while his second was denied by an impressive save from Dundee's Jon McCracken.
The best chance of the match fell to Bruce Anderson, a second-half substitute. He was found at the back post by Ben Brannan but unfortunately glanced his header wide from just six yards out.
Dundee manager Steven Pressley faced a rough start to the season, which included an early exit from the League Cup. However, after securing draws against Rangers and now Kilmarnock, he seems to have stabilized the team.
In the first half, Dundee thought they had scored when Joe Westley chipped the ball past Kilmarnock's Max Stryjek, but the goal was disallowed due to an offside in the buildup.
Analysis: Kilmarnock Struggles to Convert Dominance
Kilmarnock enjoyed more possession, more shots, and more touches in the final third compared to Dundee. Their expected goals (xG) was 0.92, significantly higher than Dundee's 0.25, yet they failed to convert this advantage into a goal.
Despite sending numerous crosses into the box, Kilmarnock struggled to find their target, particularly surprising given they were aiming for their 6ft 7in striker, Marcus Dackers.
The team lacked the clinical edge needed to finish their chances, with either McCracken making excellent saves, Dundee's defenders executing crucial blocks, or Kilmarnock's attackers missing the target. Nevertheless, remaining unbeaten will provide a morale boost for the team.
Dundee, on the other hand, can take confidence from this performance. Initially underestimated at the start of the league season, securing a point at Rugby Park is a commendable achievement, especially considering the venue's challenging history for visiting teams.
With a point at Ibrox as well, Pressley is gradually instilling a sense of belief in his squad. The return of striker Simon Murray to scoring form will further enhance their prospects.

Kilmarnock will travel to Fir Park to face Motherwell next Saturday at 15:00 BST, while Dundee will compete in the Dundee derby against United next Sunday at 14:00.
