Late Own Goals Result in Draw Between Derby County and Millwall
Derby County and Millwall played to a dramatic draw in the Championship at Pride Park, with both teams conceding late own goals.
The match appeared to be heading for a goalless conclusion until a flurry of late action in the final 10 minutes.
Derby defender Matt Clarke inadvertently redirected Thierno Ballo's cross into his own net, but he later redeemed himself by contributing to the equalizer.
Under pressure from Clarke during a corner, Millwall captain Jake Cooper headed the ball into his own goal with just two minutes remaining.
Despite the draw, Millwall remains in third place in the Championship standings but missed an opportunity to close the gap on Middlesbrough, while Derby sits in 15th place with 27 points.
The match featured limited action throughout, ultimately determined by two defensive mishaps.
Millwall initially found the net in the first half through Mihailo Ivanovic, but the goal was disallowed for offside. Femi Azeez later struck the post from a challenging angle.
Patrick Agyemang appeared to be Derby's most promising scorer, especially in the absence of injured top scorer Carlton Morris, while Tristan Crama stood out for Millwall in an otherwise lackluster performance.
Millwall entered the match seeking their fourth consecutive victory and seemed poised to secure the win after Clarke's own goal in the 81st minute. Ballo's swift cross forced Clarke's attempted header past goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom at his near post.
Clarke's misfortune was compounded by the fact that Ivanovic was positioned to score from close range had Clarke not intervened.
However, just seven minutes later, Clarke made amends by pressuring Cooper into heading the ball into his own net from a corner.
Derby substitute Rhian Brewster nearly clinched a late winner with a long-range shot that narrowly missed, leaving both teams to settle for a point.

Derby County manager John Eustace shared his thoughts with BBC Radio Derby:
"The most important thing is that I'm pleased with how we competed against a very challenging team. The players showed outstanding attitude and fought hard from the first minute to the last. Our midfield trio of Bobby Clark, Liam Thompson, and Andi Weimann performed admirably against tough opponents. I felt we defended set pieces excellently, and in the second half, it seemed like we were the team most likely to win. To go a goal down with ten minutes left, especially after two defeats, showed great character and unity to equalize, and I thought we could have potentially snatched a win in the end."
Millwall manager Alex Neil commented to BBC Radio London:
"We are obviously disappointed because when you are leading with ten minutes to go, you expect to see the game out. I felt we had the better chances overall and had a few good moments in the second half where we could have done better. Conceding in such a manner is frustrating; if it were a moment of quality from the opposition, it would be easier to accept. However, I believe it was a freak goal. If we defended that situation a hundred times, it wouldn’t happen again. I thought Derby didn’t create any clear-cut opportunities, which adds to our frustration."
