Liverpool Coach Provides Update on Alisson's Injury Status
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has stated that it is "difficult" to determine when goalkeeper Alisson will make his return from injury.
The Brazilian sustained a hamstring injury during the Reds' 1-0 defeat against Galatasaray in the Champions League on Tuesday.
According to a report from The Athletic, the 33-year-old is expected to be sidelined for approximately six weeks, which would allow him to return after the international break in mid-November.
However, after confirming Alisson's absence for Saturday's match against Chelsea (17:30 BST), Slot was hesitant to provide a specific timeline for the goalkeeper's recovery.
"It depends on how fast his recovery goes," Slot explained. "For Saturday, it is clear he’s injured and will not be playing for Brazil. I would be surprised if he is available for the first game after the international break. But from there, sometimes things can progress faster or slower. It’s always challenging to predict the exact number of days and weeks, but he will not be part of our squad or the Brazil team for the upcoming matches."
In Alisson's absence, Giorgi Mamardashvili, a £29 million signing from Valencia last summer, is expected to start at Stamford Bridge.
Despite last weekend's defeat to Crystal Palace, Liverpool remains at the top of the Premier League standings. The Reds are optimistic that striker Hugo Ekitike and winger Federico Chiesa will be available for the trip to Stamford Bridge, as both players are scheduled to train on Friday.
