Liverpool Intensifies Pursuit of Marc Guehi
Liverpool is intensifying its efforts to acquire Crystal Palace and England center-back Marc Guehi.
The Palace captain has one year remaining on his contract, but chairman Steve Parish indicated earlier this week that Guehi could be sold this summer to prevent him from leaving on a free transfer in 12 months.
According to sources speaking to BBC Sport, Liverpool has initiated discussions regarding a potential transfer for the 25-year-old before the summer transfer window closes.
In addition, Liverpool is exploring the possibility of signing Parma center-back Giovanni Leoni. The 18-year-old Italian is not viewed as a competitor to Guehi but rather as a long-term investment.
Last year, Guehi attracted bids totaling up to £65 million from Newcastle. Currently, the FA Cup winners are believed to be asking for £40 million for him, although Liverpool aims to negotiate for a lower fee.
This summer, Liverpool has already invested approximately £270 million, offset by about £170 million generated from player sales.
The club also had a £110 million bid for Alexander Isak rejected by Newcastle; however, sources have reported that the Swedish forward remains eager to join Anfield.
If Liverpool successfully signs both Guehi and Isak, their summer expenditure would exceed £400 million.
