Liverpool Signs Young Defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma
Liverpool has secured the signing of 18-year-old defender Giovanni Leoni from Italian club Parma for a fee of £26 million, plus additional performance-related add-ons.
Leoni, whose transfer was confirmed by Reds manager Arne Slot earlier this week, has signed a contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2031.
The young centre-back, who has represented Italy at the Under-19 level, began his career at Padova and had a brief stint at Sampdoria before moving to Parma last summer.
During his debut season in Serie A, Leoni made 17 appearances, drawing interest from both AC Milan and Inter Milan. However, he has chosen to pursue his career in England.
Liverpool has been actively seeking reinforcements in central defense following the recent sale of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen. The club has also been linked with Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi as a potential addition.
The completion of Leoni's transfer is contingent upon obtaining international clearance and a work permit.
