Luis Suarez Extends Contract with Inter Miami for 2026 Season
Inter Miami striker Luis Suarez has signed a one-year contract, ensuring his stay at the Major League Soccer club for the 2026 season.
In 2025, Suarez made a significant impact by scoring 17 goals and providing 17 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions, contributing to Miami's historic MLS Cup victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps earlier this month.
The former Uruguay international, who will celebrate his 39th birthday next month, initially joined the MLS team prior to the 2024 season, reuniting with former Barcelona teammates Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba.
While Busquets and Alba have announced their retirements following the MLS Cup win, Suarez has chosen to continue his journey with Miami, rejoining Messi, who signed a contract extension until 2028 in October.
Suarez, a former Liverpool forward, also played a pivotal role in Miami's triumph in the Supporters' Shield title during his debut season. However, his time in the United States has not been without controversy.
He received a nine-game suspension for an incident involving spitting on a Seattle Sounders staff member after Miami's defeat in the League Cup final in August. Additionally, Suarez faced an eight-match ban from the English Football Association in 2011 for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra, and he has served multiple suspensions for biting incidents during his career at Ajax, Uruguay, and Liverpool.
This week, Inter Miami, co-owned by David Beckham, also announced the signing of former Tottenham and Real Madrid left-back Sergio Reguilon on a free transfer.
