Luton Town's Play-Off Hopes Diminished by Reading Defeat
Luton Town's ambitions for a League One play-off position faced a significant blow as they suffered a defeat against struggling Reading.
Despite Luton's effort to recover from a two-goal deficit and equalize at 2-2 late in the match, Reading's substitute Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan scored the decisive goal in the 78th minute, ending the Hatters' four-match unbeaten run in the league.
The game started positively for Luton, with Cohen Bramall creating an opportunity but shooting wide. However, Reading took an early lead.
Hatters goalkeeper Josh Keeley inadvertently brought down Daniel Kyerewaa during a quick counterattack, resulting in a penalty that Lewis Wing calmly converted in the eighth minute, marking his sixth goal of the season.
Luton had a chance to equalize shortly thereafter, but Reading's goalkeeper Joel Pereira made an impressive save, denying an inswinging corner from Kal Naismith that had deflected off Wing's thigh.
Reading doubled their lead in the 52nd minute, with Randell Williams assisting Jack Marriott, who struck a precise shot from the edge of the area.
Luton responded seven minutes later when Wing misjudged a clearance from a Shayden Morris cross, allowing Jordan Clark to capitalize and score.
In the 76th minute, full-back Nigel Lonwijk scored a stunning equalizer from long range. However, just two minutes later, Ehibhatiomhan found the net from a tight angle, securing the win for Reading.
