Manchester City Secures New Contracts for Dias and O'Reilly
Manchester City has reached agreements in principle for new contracts with defender Ruben Dias and midfielder Nico O'Reilly.
Ruben Dias, the Portugal international, currently has a contract that runs until 2027, while academy graduate Nico O'Reilly's deal extends to 2028. Details regarding the duration of the new contracts have not been disclosed.
At 28 years old, Dias joined Manchester City from Benfica for £65 million in 2020. Since then, he has made 222 appearances for the club, contributing to their success with four Premier League titles, the Champions League trophy, and the FA Cup.
The previous season's injury challenges allowed 20-year-old O'Reilly to make his mark in the first team, with most of his 21 appearances occurring in the less familiar left-back position.
Meanwhile, Manchester City anticipates player departures before the transfer window closes on September 1. The club has yet to receive offers for out-of-favor midfielders Jack Grealish and Kalvin Phillips, who is currently recovering from Achilles surgery.
Sources have informed BBC Sport that clubs in the Premier League, including Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace, as well as teams in the Bundesliga, are showing interest in midfielder James McAtee.
Following the signing of James Trafford, Manchester City now has four senior goalkeepers, making Stefan Ortega the most likely candidate to leave if any offers materialize.
City resumed training on July 28 after their exit from the Club World Cup and will hold an opening training session on Tuesday.
