After the break, Manchester City, who have won this competition eight times, took control of the match and finally broke Swansea's resistance when Marmoush scored from Cherki's through-ball with 13 minutes remaining.
Cherki then confirmed the win in stoppage time with a low shot that found the bottom corner of the net.
Swansea, currently sitting 13th in the Championship, had hopes of an upset after their bright start troubled their more illustrious opponents.
Melker Widell, one of six changes made by Swansea, played the ball wide to Josh Key, who set up Franco for a spectacular 20-yard shot that curved into the top corner.
Abdukodir Khusanov's poor pass nearly allowed Widell to double the lead, but his low shot was expertly saved by James Trafford, who tipped it wide of the post.
Despite Guardiola making 10 changes, which initially seemed risky, Manchester City eventually found their rhythm.
Cherki came close to equalizing when he hit the post, but Doku managed to turn sharply inside Key and his shot deflected off Cameron Burgess into the net.
From that moment on, Manchester City dominated, although clear chances were limited until Marmoush netted his first goal of the season, followed by Cherki's precise finish that sealed the outcome.

This season marked only the second occasion that Manchester City played without Erling Haaland as Guardiola opted for significant changes, mirroring his approach in the third-round win against Huddersfield.
For a while, Swansea posed defensive challenges for Guardiola's men, who struggled to capitalize on their territorial and possession dominance during the final hour of the match.
However, it was evident that Manchester City would eventually prevail, as the Premier League giants' quality overwhelmed Swansea, who ran out of steam.
Following their first defeat in ten games against Aston Villa on Sunday, this victory was the response Manchester City needed as they prepare for a demanding series of top-flight matches.
In this competition, they can now look forward to reaching the last eight for only the second time since winning the cup for the fourth consecutive time in 2021.
