Manchester United has identified RB Leipzig's Benjamin Sesko as their primary target for a new striker this summer.
Recently, Sesko has been strongly linked with Newcastle United amidst growing uncertainties surrounding Alexander Isak's future. However, there has been communication between Manchester United and RB Leipzig regarding the 22-year-old Slovenian forward.
Sesko has an informal agreement with the Bundesliga club, allowing him to leave if an elite club offers around £70 million.
Manchester United is also interested in Ollie Watkins, but Aston Villa has made it clear they do not intend to sell the 29-year-old. There is an understanding at Old Trafford that overpaying for the England forward is not feasible due to his limited resale value.
Although Sesko does not match Ruben Amorim's preference for players with Premier League experience, he is regarded as one of Europe's most promising young forwards, boasting an impressive record of 39 goals in 87 appearances for RB Leipzig. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he would add significant physical presence to United's attacking line.
Sources from Old Trafford indicate that selling players is not a necessity to facilitate further signings, despite the club spending nearly £130 million on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this summer. However, they acknowledge that generating funds is essential, with potential buyers yet to be found for the remaining members of their 'bomb squad': Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Tyrell Malacia, who were excluded from the current Premier League Summer Series in the United States.
