Michael O'Connor Appointed New Manager of Glenavon
Michael O'Connor, a former midfielder for Northern Ireland, has been appointed the new manager of Glenavon FC in the Irish Premiership.
The 38-year-old takes over from Paddy McLaughlin, who parted ways with the Mid Ulster club at the end of last month.
O'Connor, who made 70 appearances for Glenavon as a player between 2020 and 2023, previously served as assistant manager at Newry City and was part of Dean Shiels' coaching staff at Coleraine.
Glenavon suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to Bangor on Saturday, marking their 11th consecutive loss this season. The team currently sits at the bottom of the table, trailing Crusaders by 10 points while having played two more matches.
A brief statement from the club released on Saturday evening announced O'Connor's appointment, stating, "Glenavon FC can announce the appointment of their new manager, Michael O'Connor. He will be joined by Mark Ferguson and Andrew Doyle."
Since McLaughlin's departure two weeks ago, players David McDaid and Niall Quinn, along with coaches Tim Lennon and Ryan Prentice, have been managing the team on an interim basis.
