Millwall and Preston North End Share Points in Thrilling Draw
Millwall and Preston North End played to a draw in a match characterized by poor first-half defending from both teams.
North End, aiming for their fourth consecutive Championship victory, took an early lead against the run of play when Michael Smith capitalized on Camiel Neghli's misguided backpass to score with a precise finish.
However, Millwall equalized before halftime due to a significant error from goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, whose mishit clearance allowed Mihailo Ivanovic to easily roll the ball into an empty net.
The second half saw an open contest, with Millwall maintaining dominance and creating more scoring opportunities. Players such as Ivanovic, Thiero Ballo, Casper De Norre, and Jake Cooper all came close to scoring for the hosts, while Lions forward Aidomo Emakhu squandered a crucial one-on-one chance.
As the match progressed, Preston began to pose a greater threat, with substitute Thierry Small nearly scoring with a shot that narrowly missed after slipping under goalkeeper Max Crocombe, who also made a save against Lewis Dobbin.
Millwall, who suffered a 4-0 defeat to Birmingham City in their previous match and have now gone three games without a win, controlled the game for much of the hour. Yet, despite their pressure and possession, they managed only one shot on target until Iversen's blunder allowed them to equalize.
The goalkeeper attempted to clear the ball following a throw-in but misjudged his kick, leaving Ivanovic with an easy chance to score. The goalkeeping errors continued as Crocombe nearly conceded a second goal after hesitating on a clearance that was charged down.
Despite Millwall's impressive play, they failed to convert numerous chances and were relieved to secure a point as Preston finished the match strongly, nearly clinching a victory that would have elevated them to second place in the standings.
