Millwall Continues Winning Streak with Victory Over Stoke City
In-form Femi Azeez scored his third goal in as many matches, helping Millwall extend their winning streak with a victory over Stoke City.
This win marks Millwall's third consecutive victory, allowing the impressive Lions to leapfrog Stoke and secure third place in the Championship.
Stoke, who had conceded only six goals in their first ten league matches this season, saw their formidable defense breached twice within the opening 21 minutes.
Azeez netted the first goal, followed by Tristan Crama, as Millwall dominated Stoke before halftime, achieving their fifth straight home victory against the Potters at The Den.
Thierno Ballo wreaked havoc on the left flank for Millwall, with the on-loan winger creating both first-half goals. His precise cross in the 10th minute was met by the 24-year-old Azeez, who headed the ball home at the far post.
Just 11 minutes later, the score increased to 2-0, as Crama scored his first goal for Millwall since joining from Brentford in January. Once again, it was Ballo who set up the goal, pulling back the ball into Crama's path after the French center-back flicked on a free-kick, allowing Crama to drill the ball into the roof of the net.
Stoke manager Mark Robins' decision to make four changes proved ineffective as his team struggled in midfield. Although a triple substitution at halftime, including the introduction of Million Manhoef, briefly revitalized Stoke, Millwall managed to maintain control throughout the second half.
The closest Stoke came to scoring was when substitute Aaron Cresswell tested Millwall goalkeeper Max Crocombe at his near post, but Crocombe was equal to the challenge.
Millwall also had opportunities to extend their lead through Luke Cundle and Mihailo Ivanovic, but Stoke goalkeeper Viktor Johansson made crucial saves. Additionally, Ben Wilmot intervened to deny Casper de Norre after Ballo had set him up.
Ultimately, the victory was what mattered most, despite the scoreline. The only downside for Millwall was another injury, as Will Smallbone pulled his hamstring in the first half.
