Morecambe Owner Plans Mediation with Potential Buyers
Morecambe owner Jason Whittingham has announced a mediation session with potential buyers Panjab Warriors scheduled for Wednesday.
This session follows a previous meeting that Panjab Warriors claimed was canceled by Whittingham just a day before it was set to occur.
In his statement, Whittingham indicated that the club is actively engaging with "a number of potential buyers" and expressed optimism about concluding the sale process later this week.
“Key stakeholders of the club are regularly updated as we, along with our advisory team, engage with buyers and remain fully supportive of the process,” the statement read. He also noted that an interim board would be appointed soon to facilitate the final stages of the sale.
Panjab Warriors have been pursuing the acquisition of the club for over a year and previously mentioned that they have invested significant funds to support the Shrimps during the last season.
This summer, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy wrote an open letter to Whittingham, urging him to proceed with the sale amidst a tumultuous off-season that included another bid for the club, which has yet to materialize.
Nandy's letter followed the National League's suspension of the club for failing to comply with their regulations. Panjab Warriors also stated in a joint announcement that the club would face closure last week if a takeover did not occur.
Morecambe, who were relegated from the English Football League (EFL) last season, are set to face Boston United on Saturday as they begin their 2025-26 National League campaign.
