Morecambe Set to Resume National League Action After Ownership Change
Morecambe has confirmed that their National League match against Altrincham will proceed on Saturday, and the club is now authorized to sign new players.
The Shrimps were compelled to postpone their first three matches of the season due to a suspension from the league for not adhering to its regulations.
Following a prolonged takeover by the Panjab Warriors consortium, the future of the Lancashire club appeared uncertain until the deal was finalized on Sunday.
On Monday, Derek Adams was dismissed as manager and was succeeded by Ashvir Singh Johal, marking him as the first Sikh to manage professionally in England.
On Wednesday, the club announced that the National League had officially lifted their transfer embargo.
The league had previously stated that the embargo would remain until all football creditors, including players, staff, and HM Revenue & Customs, were compensated.
In a statement, Morecambe expressed optimism for the future, stating, "With new ownership steering the club into a new era, optimism is building both on and off the pitch." The club added, "Fans can expect an electric atmosphere as the Shrimps look to make an early statement and set the tone for the season ahead. This is more than just the first game of the season; it’s the start of something special. We want to build a team and a club the town can be proud of, and we’re calling on our supporters to come out in force and be part of this journey from day one."
As of Monday, the BBC reported that Morecambe had only five players under contract.
Altrincham, their opponents on Saturday, have recorded one win and two losses in their three league games this season.
