The former Bournemouth goalkeeper turned the tables on his old club, denying Evanilson, Alex Jimenez, and ultimately Bafode Diakite in a tense shootout at St James' Park, after the match remained unresolved through extra time.
Newcastle defender Malick Thiaw had given the hosts a 7-6 lead in sudden death with a composed penalty kick.
