Three matches, 34 shots, and only two goals illustrate why Newcastle broke their transfer record to sign Woltemade.
The striker, who netted 17 goals for Stuttgart last season, would have undoubtedly relished the opportunity to capitalize on some of the crosses delivered by Newcastle, especially in the first half.
However, due to his ineligibility, it fell to William Osula to lead the attack, with Anthony Gordon suspended and Isak unavailable. Osula aimed to build on his promising performance against Liverpool during his first league start for the club.
Newcastle created several dangerous situations but repeatedly failed to convert, as there was often no one positioned to finish off the promising deliveries from the wings.
In one instance, Jacob Ramsey found Osula after 15 minutes, but Gabriel Gudmundsson blocked the Dane's shot inside the box.
Murphy, who appeared to be Newcastle's most significant goal threat, could only redirect a ball across the goal after seizing on another delivery from Ramsey before halftime.
Despite Murphy's attempts and the introduction of substitutes Anthony Elanga and Harvey Barnes in the second half, Newcastle could not find the breakthrough.
With ongoing uncertainty surrounding Isak's future, Woltemade may need to make an immediate impact once he is eligible to play.
