Nick Woltemade Shines as Germany Defeats Luxembourg in World Cup Qualifier
Newcastle striker Nick Woltemade scored twice as Germany triumphed over Luxembourg in the qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup.
After a challenging first half where they struggled to penetrate the Luxembourg defense, Germany broke the deadlock just four minutes after the interval. Woltemade found the net by converting a cross from Leroy Sané.
The 23-year-old forward added a second goal with just over 20 minutes remaining, finishing neatly from an incisive pass by Ridle Baku.
Liverpool's Florian Wirtz had a chance to extend the lead late in the match, but his effort was blocked as Germany sought to increase their goal tally.
This victory places Germany at the top of Group A, ahead of Slovakia on goal difference.
Both teams are assured of a top-two finish, but the race for automatic qualification remains competitive. They will face off again in their final qualifying match in Germany on Monday, November 17.
Woltemade's goals reflect his impressive form, following a successful first season at Newcastle where he netted six goals.
