Nottingham Forest in Talks to Appoint Sean Dyche as Manager
Nottingham Forest is in advanced negotiations to appoint Sean Dyche as their new manager.
Dyche has emerged as the leading candidate for the head coach position following the dismissal of Ange Postecoglou. The Premier League club aims to finalize the appointment by Monday.
Postecoglou was relieved of his duties just 17 minutes after Forest's 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday.
Currently sitting 18th in the league table with only one win in eight matches, Forest is experiencing a tumultuous season.
Dyche has engaged in productive discussions over the past 24 hours, and sources close to the situation have informed BBC Sport that his chances of securing the role have significantly improved over the weekend.
Roberto Mancini has also had talks with Forest officials, while Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, is admired but remains under contract. A substantial release clause in Silva's contract has become a consideration, especially since Forest has already incurred costs from the dismissals of Postecoglou and Nuno Espirito Santo this season.
It is also reported that Silva's willingness to leave Fulham mid-season poses an additional challenge.
Currently, Dyche is seen as the sole candidate, particularly due to the complications surrounding Silva's potential appointment, while initial interest in Mancini appears to have waned.
Forest's Managerial Changes
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis dismissed Nuno just three matches into the current campaign, subsequently appointing Postecoglou.
The Australian failed to secure a victory, and his termination—39 days after his appointment on September 9—has resulted in the shortest permanent managerial tenure in Premier League history.
Dyche, who was a youth team player at Forest in the late 1980s under manager Brian Clough, never made a first-team appearance. He has been without a managerial position since being let go by Everton in January after nearly two years in charge.
During his time at Everton, Dyche recorded 21 wins, 31 losses, and 23 draws across 75 Premier League matches, achieving 17th and 15th-place finishes.
Prior to his stint at Everton, Dyche enjoyed nearly a decade as the manager of Burnley from October 2012 to April 2022, during which he twice led the club to promotion to the Premier League and helped them qualify for Europe for the first time since 1967.
Dyche also had a brief tenure at Watford during the 2011–2012 season, which ended following a change in ownership.
A native of Kettering, Dyche had a playing career as a defender outside of the top flight, making over 500 appearances for clubs including Chesterfield, Bristol City, Millwall, Watford, and Northampton.
