Patrick Bamford Scores First Goal in Sheffield United's Victory Over Portsmouth
Patrick Bamford netted his first goal in 19 months as Sheffield United triumphed over 10-man Portsmouth, helping the Blades escape the Championship relegation zone.
The England international, making his first start for Sheffield United, scored from close range, adding to Sydie Peck's first senior goal. Gus Hamer then capped the performance with a stunning third goal, marking consecutive victories for Chris Wilder's side.
Peck's goal came from the penalty spot after Portsmouth's Terry Devlin received a red card for handling Japhet Tanganga's powerful header on the line.

After a convincing victory in the Sheffield derby at Hillsborough on Sunday, Wilder's team aimed for only their second home win of the season and maintained control throughout the match.
Bamford had an early chance with a half-volley that went wide, while Jairo Riedewald's close-range effort was saved by Portsmouth goalkeeper Nico Schmid. This highlighted Portsmouth's ongoing issues with defending set-pieces, which ultimately cost them when Sam McCallum's corner was met by Tanganga, prompting Devlin to handle the ball to prevent a goal.
Bamford initially took possession but selflessly passed to Peck, who confidently scored in the bottom corner for his first goal in 66 appearances for the club.
McCallum created another opportunity that was saved by Schmid, but his corner deliveries continued to prove effective in the second half. Tanganga's header hit the crossbar, allowing Bamford to tap in the rebound.
At 32 years old, Bamford was released by Leeds in the summer after failing to start or score during their promotion season to the Premier League. He signed a short-term contract with Sheffield United two weeks ago.
Hamer, who recently returned from a six-week injury layoff, solidified the Blades' victory with a spectacular long-range shot that beat Schmid. Danny Ings was denied a fourth goal due to a tight offside decision.
