Preston North End Defeats Ipswich Town in Championship Clash
Championship promotion favorites Ipswich Town's inconsistent start to the season continued as they suffered a 1-0 defeat against Preston North End at Deepdale.
Milutin Osmajic's early penalty proved decisive, marking Ipswich's first league loss after a series of draws.
Despite dominating possession with over 70% and registering 15 shots on goal, Ipswich struggled offensively, managing only two attempts on target.
This victory for Preston marks their second win of the season, propelling them to sixth place in the early league standings.
The penalty was awarded to Preston within the first 10 minutes when Osmajic was fouled by Jacob Greaves. He then converted the penalty, sending goalkeeper Alex Palmer the wrong way and firing low into the left corner for his third goal of the season.
Although Ipswich controlled possession, they found it challenging to create opportunities. Palmer's quick reflexes helped avert danger following a short backpass, as the home side threatened on the counterattack.
Thierry Small was particularly active for Preston on the left flank, while Ipswich's lackluster performance characterized the first half.
George Hirst squandered Ipswich's best chance six minutes before halftime, failing to direct Jack Clarke's cross on target while in the box.
After halftime, Ipswich increased the pressure but struggled to create clear-cut chances. Small's well-timed challenge denied Clarke a shot in the area just before the hour mark.
New signing Kasey McAteer was introduced for Ipswich but missed an opportunity shortly after the 70-minute mark. Minutes later, Small failed to capitalize on a chance at the other end.
Ultimately, Ipswich could not find an equalizer, and Preston secured a significant win, achieving back-to-back victories for the first time since January and earning their first league clean sheet since March.
