Ruben Amorim Reflects on Emotional Post-Match Comments
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has attributed his emotional state to his post-match remarks following the team's defeat to Grimsby Town, which raised concerns about his future at the club. He expressed, "sometimes I want to quit."
After the EFL Cup loss to the League Two side on Wednesday, the Portuguese coach stated that his team was "completely lost" and emphasized that "something has to change."
Despite the speculation surrounding his comments, which some interpreted as a sign of uncertainty regarding his position, Amorim chose not to clarify his statements at the time.
However, during a press conference on Friday, he acknowledged, "To be really honest, every time we experience a defeat like that in the future, I will react similarly. I will express that sometimes I hate my players and sometimes I love them."
He further elaborated, "Sometimes I want to quit, and other times I want to remain here for 20 years. I recognize that I need to improve in this area; it will be challenging, but my focus is now on the next game."
Manchester United recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal and drew 1-1 with Fulham in the Premier League. They are set to host Burnley on Saturday at 15:00 BST.
Amorim also mentioned, "I felt we had a very good pre-season, and we were performing consistently well. However, we played poorly for 30 minutes against Fulham, and I was truly disappointed with the performance against Grimsby. But now, it's a new game, and we must concentrate on that."
