Scotland Recalls Shankland for Crucial World Cup Qualifiers
Heart of Midlothian captain Lawrence Shankland has been recalled to the Scotland squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Greece and Denmark later this month.
The striker, who last played for Scotland in a Nations League victory over Poland a year ago, returns to manager Steve Clarke's selection alongside defenders Ross McCrorie and Josh Doig.
Bristol City’s McCrorie, who made his only Scotland appearance against Gibraltar last year, is back to provide additional cover at right-back, especially with Aaron Hickey returning from injury sustained during the previous international window.
Doig, who missed the squad in October, was part of the group in September and will compete for the left-back position with captain Andy Robertson and Kieran Tierney.
Angus Gunn, who has started all four qualifiers, will miss out due to injury, leading to the return of Falkirk’s Scott Bain, who last represented Scotland in 2019 against San Marino.
Scotland will travel to Piraeus to face Greece on November 15, followed by a match against group leaders Denmark at Hampden Park three days later.
Clarke's team currently sits second in Group C, having secured three wins and a draw, and they have already guaranteed at least a spot in the World Cup play-offs scheduled for March.
