Sunderland Secures Victory Against Wolves in Premier League Clash
Sunderland continued their impressive start to the Premier League season by handing Wolves their sixth defeat in eight matches.
Nordi Mukiele opened the scoring in the first half following a clever exchange with Trai Hume, setting Regis Le Bris' team on the path to victory. An own goal by Ladislav Krejci late in the game sealed all three points for the Black Cats, marking their third win at the Stadium of Light this season.
This result elevates Sunderland to seventh place in the standings, having accumulated 10 points from their first four home games of a top-flight campaign for the first time since the 1968-69 season (when adjusted for three points for a win). In contrast, Wolves remain at the bottom of the table without a win.
Wilson Isidor provided an early scare for the hosts, striking a powerful left-foot shot into the top-left corner, only to find that he had been flagged offside due to a slight misjudgment in timing his run.
However, Sunderland quickly asserted their dominance and did not have to wait long for the opening goal, with Mukiele executing a well-timed one-two and firing a shot that went through the legs of visiting goalkeeper Sam Johnstone.
The home side threatened to extend their lead further when Hume's header hit the post after Mukiele's long throw was flicked on by Dan Ballard.
Although Wolves performed better in the second half and put pressure on the Sunderland penalty area for an extended period, they struggled to break down a resolute home defense.
Missed opportunities, including a wayward finish from Jackson Tchatchoua and Krejci's unfortunate clearance, summed up a disappointing afternoon for the West Midlands club.
